JAMMU, Mar 24: National Services Scheme (NSS), Campus Units of Jammu University today organized one day workshop on Right to Information (RTI) Act under theme “RTI Vis a Vis: Transparency in Governance” in Law Department of JU.
While speaking on the Occasion, Dr Arun Manhas, Additional Deputy Commiss-ioner, who was the chief guest of the programme stressed upon the implementation of Section 4 (pro active disclosure) of Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009, wherein the public authorities are bound to suo moto disclose certain kind of information.
He said if this section 4 is properly implemented by the departments then there will be significant decline in number of RTI applications by the citizens that will save time and money of the Government.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman NSS Campus Units of Jammu University called for judicious use of RTI Act and requested the people making the RTI to refrain from seeking frivolous information to settle personal agendas to save resources of the public authorities.
The resource persons including Balvinder Singh, Convener Sangarsh RTI Movement, Raman Sharma and Dewaker Sharma, Advocate Jammu and Kashmir High Court through their power point presentations threw light on various sections of the RTI Act. Sharing details about the information gathered through different RTIs, the resources persons asked the participating students of the Law Department to use RTI for public interest and to make the Government functionaries accountable.
In the end, the vote of thanks was presented by Prof (Asst) Savita Nayar, Programme Officer NSS.
Dr Seema Rohmetra and Dr Meghna Dhar, NSS, Programme Officers and others senior NSS volunteers were also present on the occasion.
