JAMMU, Sept 9: Nagrota Sangarash Samiti (NSS) today made a passionate appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to instruct the concerned authorities for resumption of work on the Nagrota College complex, which was stopped immediately after laying the foundation stone last year without any reason.
Protesting local leaders, sitting on dharna in support of their demand for over a month now, renewed their resolve to take their peaceful struggle to a logical conclusion, as it involved the future of their children. They expressed surprise over suspension of the work and lackadaisical approach of the Higher Education Department in implementing the Government decision taken last year after establishing feasibility and finalizing the site.
“There has to be some sort of accountability especially when it comes to abiding the Government decisions”, they said, adding that the people in general and students in particular are genuinely feeling anguished over stopping the work on the college complex. Given the assurances held out by the top Government functionaries at the time of the stone laying ceremony the complex should have been completed by now”, they lamented, adding that the delay is exposing the intent of those having vested interest, which in no way is in the interest of the student community.
The local leaders expressed anguish that despite their protests nobody is showing any inclination to sort out the issue as per wishes of the people and in accordance with the Government decision. They urged the administration to have the construction started so that the project is completed within stipulated time.
