NSS unit of CUJ organises workshop on Digital India

JAMMU, Mar 8: The National Service Scheme (NSS)  unit of the Central University of Jammu organised a workshop on Digital India at Sainik Colony campus here today.
The workshop was part of  National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEiTY), Govt  of  India  pilot programme to generate awareness among NSS volunteers in the country.
Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Commissioner Secretary, IT J&K inaugurated the workshop and delivered the address. He outlined various steps taken by the J&K Govt to build digital infrastructure in the state including providing free wifi at various tourist destination in the State.  He said that department is focusing on capacity building at the various levels to meet the e-governance goals. The optical fibre laying project will be completed in the state soon which will provide digital connectivity to every village, block and district, he added.
Ms Barnali Mukherjee and  Ajeet Kumar from NeGD, the main resource persons  presented various projects under Digital India initiative. The Central University of Jammu also entered an MoU with NSSCOM Foundation, New Delhi on capacity building on National Digital Learning Missions.  Santosh Abraham, Associate vice president, Skills Initiative and NDLM from NASSCOM Foundation also graced the occasion. He offered that their organisation will train 100 students from Central University, Jammu.
Prof Ashok Aima,  Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu told students to create digital platform and be connected to world digitally. He also appreciated the NSS Unit of the  University. Nimisha Abrol, senior consultant talked about electronics system designs and manufacturing. Prof Devanand Padha, Dr Paul Sugandhar, Dr Nancy Mengi and Dr Bhavna Arora also delivered lectures on various topics.
The Common Service Centres (CSC) and NILET put up their stalls for Aadhar registration and digital locker services. The session ended with question- answer round.
Over 240 participants from Sri Mata Vaisho Devi University, SKUSAT, IMPA, Jammu University, Degree College Kathua and other technical institutes from the region attended the programme.
