JAMMU, Jan 11: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) unit of University of Jammu (JU) today raised the issues being faced by the students in hostel allotment and urged the University administration to redress the issue.
Addressing a press conference, president of NSUI unit of JU, Jatin Dogra, mentioned that yesterday the NSUI team submitted a memorandum to the University’s provost. In the memorandum, he said, they criticized SRO 127 and explained how the administration’s decision is causing difficulties for students.
Dogra further mentioned that this year, the University’s DSE committee has implemented SRO 127, which affects hostel allotment. However, many students are not getting hostels due to the lack of consideration for distance. “As a result, students who live far away are facing problems with their studies,” he said, adding, the University administration is not responding appropriately when students try to communicate with them.
While addressing media, Salik Ali Shah said it is a very genuine demand and University shouldn’t neglect the students of various reserved categories like SC, ST and OBCs and also they should consider the distance criteria. Shah said when students tried to talk with the provost hostel his behaviour was not appropriate so at least he should take cognizance.
The NSUI leaders asked the University administration to resolve the issue within a week, otherwise they will protest against the decision. Also present in the press conference were vice president Salik Ali, media incharge Sneha Kundal, Harris Ali, Nishyat Iqbal and Akshit.
