NTPHC Doabgah operates without doctors

SRINAGAR, June 28: The newly established New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Doabgah area of Sopore in North Kashmir is currently operating without a doctor, prompting local residents to voice concern over inadequate basic facilities.
Residents said that the health centre relies solely on a Pharmacist to dispense medications and provide limited treatment, as no doctors are available onsite. They attribute the absence of medical professionals to the facility’s lack of essential amenities such as reliable electricity and clean drinking water.
“There is no electricity or water supply, making it difficult for medical staff, especially doctors, to come here. The absence of basic facilities in NTPHC, including inadequate water supply in washrooms and unreliable electricity, poses significant challenges for the local population reliant on this health service,” a local resident said.
The residents demanded immediate action to equip the health centre with essential infrastructure and deploy a regular medical team, including qualified doctors. “I have raised these concerns with the relevant authorities, and I am optimistic that the issues of water and electricity will soon be resolved,” Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie, a resident, said.
Chief Medical Officer, Mastoora Iqbal of Baramulla addressed the situation, acknowledging that the health centre is currently undergoing construction. “Previously housed in a private building, the facility has recently been relocated to a new building where construction work is ongoing,” she said.
Regarding the shortage of doctors, Iqbal assured that efforts are underway to address the issue promptly.
