Srinagar, Dec 7: Nursing aspirants today protested against the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) alleging that the board played with their career by not making the selection in the B.Sc Nursing program on merit basis.
Several such aspirants assembled here and raised slogans against the mode of selection which they said is flawed and will not be accepted.
The examination for the B.Sc nursing was earlier conducted by the colleges individually, however, this time, the BOPEE has conducted these exams, which, as per the students has not only made the process complex but has also added to their problems.
“B.Sc Nursing exam conducted by the BOPEE and now that the results are out, they are telling us that the selection will be made as per the preference which is totally against what used to be the norm,” a nursing aspirant, Aqib Fayaz Wani said.
He said that at the time of applying, they had not given any preferences; however, the same was made automatically by the system.
“At the time when we filed the application form, we did not state any preferences, the application form stated that our selection will be made in the B.Sc Nursing and not in the paramedical and technology—which happens nowhere as we had not given the preferences,” he said.
The aspirants termed it as “sheer injustice” and said that they are now being told that the counselling will happen not as per the merit, but as per the preferences given.
“We have been told that the counselling will be held as per the preference basis and not the merit basis. We did not know that they are going to make the selection of preference basis,” the aspirants said.
They also said that they tried to bring the issue into the notice of Secretary BOPEE in his office today, they were not given the time to meet him, rather, they alleged that they were dragged out by the security personnel present there.
“We waited to meet him from 9 in the morning till afternoon, but he did not meet, and we were dragged out,” they alleged.
