Nursing Council Act in offing: Taj

SRINAGAR, June 8: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi-ud- Din today disclosed that the State Government is contemplating to bring a law to regulate nursing education in the State.
Addressing a prize distribution function at a private nursing college here today, the Minister said so far there was no regulation of nursing courses being taught in the State and presently the students are registered under Punjab Nursing Act.
The Minister informed that the draft Nursing Bill has been prepared and presently the Law Department is examining it. He hoped that soon the bill would take final shape and consequent rules would also be framed. He said the proposed act would also solve many of the problems being faced by nursing schools in the State and students pursuing the course.
Mr. Taj said nursing career has a great employment potential and as per the WHO estimates every year one million nurses are needed in the world. He said similarly other paramedical courses like lab technology, theatre technology etc. are also in demand and need of the hour is that we should be able to impart quality education in these disciplines  for which a legal cover has become a necessity.  He said once the bill is passed it would streamline the course curriculum, employment avenues and institutional requirements in nursing education.
