JAMMU, Nov 8: Up in arms against the Government for not listing to their demands, the protesting NYC volunteers and Panchayat Empowerment Committee today joined hands for justice.
Addressing a joint press conference, here today, representatives of the Panchayat Committee and All JK NYC State Association termed the demands of each other as most genuine that needed to be addressed by the Government.
“We support the demand for a comprehensive policy for NYC volunteers who served honestly and rendered excellent services in the Panchayats,” said PEC president Prikshit Singh, who shot to limelight by vociferously highlighting the issues of Panchayat members before AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Jammu on last Wednesday.
Besides seeking empowerment of Panchayats by implementing 73rd amendment, Prikshit Singh also demanded re-organizing the system of Rural Development Department, which was not changed since 1956.
Condemning  Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’ s remark that he created ruckus in Rahul Gandhi’s programme because of his blood relation with leaders of a particular party, Prikshit Singh sought to claim that the members of Panchayat Empowered Committee were neither affiliated nor hostile to any political party.
The NYC State Association vice president Asif Bhat lamented that despite repeated assurances by the Government and ruling parties, nothing has been done for drafting a comprehensive policy for them.
If the Government does not consider our demands, the NYC volunteers along with Panches and Sarpanches will take to streets and launch a vigorous struggle for justice, he warned.
Others present in the press conference, included NYC joint secretary Sayeed Bakar Jafri, Jagdeep Singh, Mushtaq Bhat, Sunil Chouhan, Mahesh Sharma and Kunal.
