JAMMU, Jan 30: Various organisations representing the cause of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the Union Territory of J&K have expressed their strong reservation about the rationalization of Reservation policy announced by UT Government today.
In a statement issued here, today Prof Kali Dass, general secretary All India Backward Classes Union J&K unit termed it a cheating with the OBCs of the UT. He, while condemning the rationalization of the policy said Government has totally deceived the OBCs of the UT and abolition of Article 370 has not served any purpose for these hapless people.
He said what was the fun of abrogation of the Article 370 when the provisions of Indian Constitution were not applied to the J&K. Prof Dass asked when in rest of the country OBCs get the benefit of 27 percent reservation why not in J&K?. “For OBCs no change has come despite the abrogation of Article 370 as they have been denied of reservation benefits and Mandal Commission recommendations despite the directives of SC”, he added.
Strongly reacting to the new notification issued by UT Government regarding reservation rules, convener OBC Maha Sabha, Bansi Lal Choudhary said the OBCs of J&K feel totally cheated and they have lost the hope in present Government also. “We have been struggling for last three decades for grant of 27 percent reservations and a ray of hope had emerged with the abrogation of Article 370 but now the same has dashed to ground”, he added.
Choudhary said with the today’s notification OBCs are left with no alternative but to come to streets to fight for their rights. He said the claims of Union Government and BJP leaders have also proved hollow in this regard who failed to give justice to OBCs of the J&K.
However R K Kalsotra , State president, All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC organizations complimented the Lt Governor, G C Murmu for increasing the quantum of reservation for OSC from 2 percent to 4 percent. He said though the quantum of reservation for OBCs under Mandal Commission was 27 percent and reservations given by Government are far less than their expectations.
