JAMMU, Mar 12: The members of various organizations of OBCs including, All J&K OBC Mahasabha, All India Backward Classes Federation and All J&K OBC Welfare Forum today held protest demonstration demanding 27% reservation for the OBCs in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
The members of these organizations today assembled near Press Club of Jammu here today and held protest demonstration against the Union Government and the UT administration. They alleged that despite assurance by the Prime Minister during two rallies, the OBCs are not getting quota as per the recommendations of Mandal Commission.
Later, talking to media-persons, the senior members K L Basotra, Faquir Chand Satia, Naresh Kumar, Manga Ram, Bansi Lal Choudhary, B D Kashyap and others alleged that Backward Classes Commission in J&K has included many castes in this category which are not in as per the Mandal Commission recommendation. They said under the influence of BJP many castes have been included in the new list thus causing harm to the already existing OBC classes.
They pointed out that under EWS category already many castes have been given benefit of the reservation but now inclusion of some castes in the OBC has harmed the interests of other people already in the list. They opposed the move of the Government of providing benefit of quota to some other sections of the society.
These OBC leaders urged upon the Modi Government and LG Administration in J&K to intervene into the matter and provide 27% reservation to the OBCs in the Jammu and Kashmir as per the recommendations of Mandal Commission Report. They claimed that their OBC Adhikar Tiranga Yatra will be continued in future as well to create awareness among the masses and attaract the attention of the Government towards this issue.
