JAMMU, Feb 28: OBC Mahasabha in a series of meetings held at Talab Tillo, Old Janipur,Nai Basti, Satwari, New Plot and others area appealed to the members of the community to gear up for peaceful protest on March 3 at Press Club here.
A spokesman of the Mahasabha claimed that population of the OBC communities in Jammu & Kashmir is more than 40%. He alleged that erstwhile Governments in J&K manipulated the data of OBC population in 2014. Various Deputy Commissioners collected the reports from their Tehsildars, Girdwars and Patwaris who submitted the report without conducting door to door survey. This report lying with the Social Welfare Department is not factual.
He said that Census-2021 should have a separate column for OBC castes & communities as the last caste based census was done in 1931. Now, it has become difficult that which castes and communities of OBC’s will get the benefit of funds announced by Modi Govt in this Budget session. He demanded political reservation, financial assistance for generating self employment,
The spokesman said that at present issue of issuing OSC’S/OBC’S certificates has become big problem. The certificate issuing authorities of JK-UT are insisting the OBC masses to produce a revenue record in which their caste is mentioned. That is the major issue needed to be addressed. He appealed the community to make protest programme a bug success.
