OBC Mahasabha takes out ‘Mashal’ rally

JAMMU, Apr 16: A large number of people from OBC community took out a candle light protest march in support of their demands on Canal Road here this evening.
The members of the community under the banner of All J&K OBC Mahasabha and led by Romesh Chander president of Mahasabha assembled at Bhagwati Nagar at around 6.30 pm and started protest march towards Canal Road. Carrying Mashals/ candles in hands and displaying banners they were shouting slogans in support of their demands. They were demanding 27 % reservation in the J&K state.
After passing through main market of Canal Road, Science College they reached Jewel Chowk and suspended their program at main rotary. While addressing the gathering, the speakers criticised the State rulers for framing the Reservation Act 2004 and Reservation Rules vide SRO 294 of 2005 and termed it as joke with the OBCs of the State. They alleged that State Government provided just 2% reservation to the community against the 27% recommended by the Mandal Commission. They demanded that Mandal Commission report be implemented in the State. It was also stressed that Government should issue OBC certificate instead of OSC in the State as the candidates of the community are suffering due to it.
They also criticised the Congress and National Conference for doing injustice with the OBC community. They pointed out that community will chalk out strategy for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and will teach lesson to those parties working against the interests of the community.
Prominent among those spoke on the occasion included B L Choudhary, Kasturi Lal Basotra, Jagdish Raj, Manohar Lal, Vaishno Dutt Dogra, A K Kashyap, Madan Lal Dogra, K C Raina and Mohd Hanief.
