The recent decision by the Union Cabinet to approve reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir is a step in right direction. This inclusive step, allowing one-third of reserved seats for OBC women, reflects a commitment to democratic representation. The move to extend reservations to the posts of District Development Council (DDC) and Block Development Council (BDC) Chairpersons is commendable, fostering diversity and equal opportunities.
It’s heartening to see the Government recognizing the need for political representation for OBCs in J&K. I believe this decision will contribute to a more inclusive and equitable political landscape. Kudos to the Government for taking this progressive step towards ensuring fair representation for all sections of society.
