Of noise pollution

Sir,
The season of marriages is in full swing these days with boom in marriages across the country leading to every hall being booked for marriage function and one or the other function assòciated with marriage ceremony being celebrated almost every day during the auspicious period.Alongwith the marriage rituals, reckless use of loudspeakers, drums, DJ systems, Brassbands etc. during receptions and other parties has increased many times.Bursting of crackers too has become a part and parcel of celebrations of every kind, be it the victory in a cricket match, election, wedding/other such occassions.Loudspeakers are used indiscriminately even in religious functions such as Satsangs and Jagratas without caring about the convenience  and comfort of others. The point is that it is believed that making noise is a sign of happiness. We are ignorant of the harmful effects that we are exposed to the excessive noise produced due the reckless use of loudspeakers and other such equipments.Noise pollution causes annoyance, aggression, hypertension, hearing impairment, heart diseases and neurological disorders especially in the aged and the infirm and children.Residents and students living near the marriage halls are the worst victims they have to bear the brunt of noise pollution for no fault of theirs. Not only this, sometimes marriage procession becomes a nightmare affecting vehicular traffic adversely.
It is high time the Government and Law Enforcement Agencies  acted promptly to stop the menace of noise pollution caused due to reckless celebrations. The Supreme Court of India has banned the public use of loud speakers and other music systems from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m and these directions need to be enforced  strictly.Permission to  open marriage halls should be given strictly under rules in the areas falling outside the residential areas. There should be sufficient space for parking of vehicles.Fire crackers should be evaluated on the basis of light and sound emission and chemical composition.
Yours etc…
