RAJOURI, Jan 1: In a glaring example of administrative negligence, the BDC office building in Thannamandi, inaugurated in 2016-17 by then MLA Advocate Qammar Choudhary, remains in deplorable condition despite significant public expenditure.
The building, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakhs, had Rs 30 lakh released and spent on its construction. However, it has failed to serve its intended purpose and has instead become a shelter for animals/cattle.
Located in an isolated area far from town, the building’s location has made it inconvenient for the public to access. Despite repeated representations and reminders, no action has been taken by the ACD Rajouri regarding making the building functional, to shift the office to this building or ensure its upkeep.
The public has expressed strong displeasure over the wastage of public funds and the failure of the administration to address the issue. This is the matter of serious concern that such a significant project, intended to improve public service delivery, has been neglected to this extent.
The building now stands as a symbol of poor planning and lack of accountability, with locals urging immediate intervention. They have demanded that the district administration must take necessary steps to either make the building functional or investigate the reasons behind its abandonment.
