*Secretary calls for awareness about fuel conservation

JAMMU, Jan 17: Secretary CAPD, Sourabh Bhagat, inaugurated Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight here today.
Being organized by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the theme of this year’s fortnight is ‘Clean Fuel’.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary said that there is dire need and importance of launching a vigorous campaign to create awareness among people about the importance of conservation of oil and gas to make the future of country secure. He called for organising awareness campaigns at district level by involving district administration and other stakeholders to make people aware about fuel saving tips in various fields including transport, Agriculture, Industries and Household sectors.
He said that the consumption of fuel like oil and gas used in human activity can be reduced to a large extent if these tips are followed by the consumers in a right perspective.
Underlining the ill effects of alarming pollution due to burning of wood and other conventional fuels, he emphasized effective use of clean fuels like LPG, CNG etc. He said Union Government is dedicated to provide subsidized gas connection to every household to make these free from polluting agents. He also emphasized for orientation programmes for drivers to educate them about the importance and benefits of switching off engines during traffic jams and long halts.
While necessitating the need of an attitudinal change in the society towards their responsibilities, the Secretary urged upon the participants to become a part of change and disseminate the message about use of clean fuel and its conservation.
Mr Bhagat administered oath to the participants for fuel conservation.
Later, he also flagged off a publicity van to spread Conservation awareness in Jammu province.
Among others Director CA&PD G.S Chib, State Coordinator Oil Industry J&K Hari Anupam besides representatives of Oil companies and several dealers were also attended the inaugural function.
