JAMMU, Sept 11: All Jammu and Kashmir Oil Tankers Drivers and Cleaners Union here today organized an awareness programme which was presided over by S. Ranjit Singh Raina, Union President.
Speaking on the occasion Union members informed the drivers and cleaners about new rates of taxes and penalties under the new Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.
They also appealed drivers and cleaners to follow all traffic rules on road and expressed concern over the recent hike in penalties for traffic violations and nine per cent hike in tax of all kind vehicles.
In his address S. Ranjit Singh appealed to the Government to reconsider the decision of imposing such heavy taxes and penalties in J&K and work for bringing awareness about traffic rules.
He further said that for over a month, the transport industry in J&K is going through a tough time due to the prevailing situation in the Valley and other sensitive areas of Jammu.
The drivers present on the occasion also shared their difficult during their trips to different parts of the State especially in Kashmir region.
They claimed that majority of people in the Valley are polite and welcome the drivers but few miscreants target the vehicles and drivers.
They urged police authorities to ensure their security.
