Addressing a press conference at Press Club of Jammu, the aggrieved wine traders expressed their feeling of displeasure. They said that many a times meetings were conducted with the higher authorities of J&K Government and senior officials of the Excise Department regarding bringing of such a policy in 2023-24 in which a provision for adjusting the old licensees will be made either by allotting them licensee for sale of low alcoholic beverages separately or any other provision that will best suit to the Government and the excise department.
They said a number of times old licensee holders represented their issues that they were facing in providing livelihood to their families. “All these issues were deliberated in the excise meetings also and the report for the same was also presented to the higher authorities of J&K for further decision on this critical matter,” they added.
Old wine traders also expressed their strong resentment towards the senior leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party who verbally accepted that the decision of bringing the e-auction system thereby snatching their (wine traders) livelihood was a wrong move by the LG Government but failed to project their genuine demands to the Government.
The aggrieved old wine traders requested the LG Manoj Sinha to reconsider the excise policy 2023-24 and taking a sympathetic view for their livelihood by making a provision to adjust them (old license holders).
