JAMMU, June 28: Residents of Om Nagar Udheywala staged a protest at the office of the Chief Engineer of Electricity Department in Bhagwati Nagar against the irregular power cuts and then met the Chief Engineer.
Vikas Dewan a social activist and one of the resident of the area said that despite it being the peak Summer season, there are power cuts due to which people are facing many problems every day.
Before installing the smart meter, the Electricity Department had taken people into confidence and assured that once the meters are installed in entire area, people will be provided 24 hours electricity.
But despite smart meters being installed in the entire area, power cuts are still being made during day and night.
He further said that power cuts during the day can still be tolerated but at midnight, people face power cuts for hours and sometimes for 3 hours, due to which the children and especially the elderly are facing a lot of trouble.
When they met the Chief Engineer regarding these matters, he assured the residents of Om Nagar that from now on there will be no power cut at least at night and the cut will be minimized during the day as well.
Vijay Bhardwaj, Avtar K Bhat. Ravi Sharma, Maharaj K Bhat, V K Zutshi, Rajeev Gupta, Shashikant, Sham Sharma and some women Meenu Dewan, Suman Sharma, Poli Devi, Seema Gupta were also present in the delegation.
