Omar for speeding up land acquisition process

SRINAGAR, July 19: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today emphasized on speeding up land acquisition for construction of roads under PMGSY, adding that Rs. 710 crore provided by the Prime Minister as a special grant need to be utilized in a meticulously and in a transparent manner to achieve the set target within the prescribed time frame.
Chairing a high level meeting here to review the progress on PMGSY and get appraisal on the status of land acquisition process being carried across the State to ensure construction of roads hassle free, Omar Abdullah said that PMGSY provides necessary succor to the efforts of the State Government to expand road communication network in the state and open up villages and remote areas for holistic development and generation of economic activities. He asked the concerned department to ensure spending of funds as per work schedule and concentrate on realizing outcomes rather than outputs.
He said road communication sector in the State has been flagged as one of the most important sectors in the development policy and upgradation, improvement and construction of roads and bridges are receiving priority attention under various State and Centrally sponsored schemes. He said good roads buttress economy and bridges bridge the development gaps.
Chief Minister said that he will review the land acquisition process under PMGSY on quarterly basis. He asked the Principal Secretary, Planning and Development to take stock of this process on monthly basis.
In a power point presentation made by Commissioner Secretary R&B, Tanveer Jahan, the Chief Minister was apprised of various issues pertaining to land acquisition and clearance of schemes under PMGSY.
The meeting was attended by Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani, Minister of State for Revenue, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for R&B, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B.R. Sharma, Secretary Forests, Chief Engineers and other senior officers.
