SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today hinted at pre-poll alliance between National Conference and Coalition partner Congress in the next Assembly polls due in 2014.
Addressing Panchs and Sarpanchs at Bandipora, Sumbal and Sopore, Mr Omar, who is also working president of the National Conference, said, “the decision to contest election for the four Legislative Council seats by National Conference and Congress jointly indicates the grand alliance between two parties to face 2014 Assembly elections in the State”.
“National Conference and Congress share high principles of communal harmony, equitable development and restoration of permanent peace in the state”, he said, adding “the coalition between the two parties is natural and will get further strengthened in the future”.
Underscoring the importance of closer coordination between NC and Congress workers to realise the goal of peace and equitable development, the Chief Minister said that the performance of the Government is the highest tool in the hands of workers of Coalition partners to blunt the false propaganda of frustrated elements against the Government and the coalition.
He asked the Panchs and Sarpanchs to show unity and commitment by ensuring thumping victory of the joint candidates of the coalition in Legislative Council election to be held on December 3 under Panchayat quota.
“Let you exhibit by your verdict in favour of NC-Congress joint candidates in MLCs election that the coalition between the two parties is for the highest cause of public service and in the larger interest of the state and the country”, he said.
“Path breaking decisions taken by the Government to empower people, give them authority to question administration and carry forward holistic development in all sectors across the State along with new initiatives for restoration of peace and stability are glaring examples of the determination and commitment of Coalition Government to work for peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir” he said.
Omar referred to the holding of Panchayat elections after a long period of 30 years, transferring power to these institutions, enactment and implementation of Public Services Guarantee Act, constitution of State Information Commission under Right to Information Act, reconstitution of Accountability Commission, universalization of third party monitoring and e-governance besides strengthening institutions to bring in transparency in the functioning of administration and reducing corruption.
“Our work done on development and peace restoration fronts are visible at ground and cannot be eclipsed by the propaganda of propagandist elements. We are not like them to create hype in public and media by falsehood tactics. Our report card is our credential and people will judge us on our performance”, he said, adding that Coalition Government works silently and achieves the goals one after one which themselves speak louder and clear for it.
He said that the Coalition Government held Panchayat elections to make grass root level public representatives powerful to participate in the formation of development policy and its implementation on ground. “We are committed for a powerful and effective Panchayat Raj in the State”, he said, adding that the success of the coalition is in the success of Panchayat Raj”.
Lambasting the opposition, the working President of National Conference castigated this party and its leadership for unleashing uncalled for and false propaganda against the Government and coalition. Reminding the people of the state of affairs on peace and development fronts during the tenure of PDP, Omar said that those in whose tenure their own legislators and ministers were attacked, cricket playing children got killed, people offering prayers were hit and the common people lived in fear ought not to talk of the situation at present which is not only better but substantially moving towards further improvement.
“For the lust of power they can go to any extent. They can even use gun to gain power. They can put the society to fire, divide people on religious lines, make different sections of the society to fight each other just for the sake of getting to the chair and be in power. They have nothing to do with democracy. They were the people who torpedoed the democratic institutions whenever they got the chance”, he said.
“They are not concerned whether Panchayats flourish or not and this was evident from the fact that they were against holding of Panchayat elections”, he said and cautioned the Panchs and Sarpanchs against the designs of these elements. “They want you to fail, but we all together will show them that Panchayat Raj System not only becomes vibrant but also the the most vibrant institution in the country”, he added
Mohammad Akbar Lone, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Javed Dar besides NC-Congress candidates for Kashmir division Ali Mohammad Dar and Gh. Nabi Monga also addressed the gatherings.
