SRINAGAR, June 3: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today underlined the need for ensuring 24×7 electricity supply to the consumers in the State without increasing tariff or putting any additional burden on the consumers. He said a befitting mechanism in PPP mode can be mulled in this regard to begin in the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu.
Receiving presentation on the study made under the guidance of Planning Commission of India by FEEDBACK INFRA for ascertaining feasibility of roping in PPP partners in distribution of electricity in Srinagar and Jammu, the Chief Minister said that his Government has flagged power sector as one of the most important sectors in the development policy and various measures have been put in place to increase generation and provide electricity to the consumers hassle-free.
“PPP participation both in generation as well as distribution will be welcomed, if it ensures increase in indigenous power generation and upgrade supply system without tariff increase”, he said and added that the presentation made by the representatives of Planning Commission of India and FEEDBACK INFRA would be given proper thought by the concerned departments. He said a final blue print for rolling out the scheme would be discussed with all the stakeholders and the State Cabinet.
The objective of PPP distribution in the cities of Srinagar and Jammu is aimed at eliminating power cuts and ensuring supply of electricity 24×7 without loading any additional tariff burden on consumers.
The feasibility study undertaken by FEEDBACK INFRA under the guidance of Planning Commission of India was presented in a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah here.
The meeting was attended by Adviser to the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Gajendra Haldea, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Department, B. R. Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Adviser (INFRA) Planning Commissioner, Ravi Mittal, Principal Secretary Power Development Department, A. K. Mehta and various other senior officers.
