Omar reiterates commitment for peace, inclusive development

SRINAGAR, May 27: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today complemented people for extending wholehearted support to him to restore peace and tranquility and strengthen institutions for public empowerment, transparency and good-governance.
“The unabated and definite public support to my efforts even in most challenging situations has acted as an elixir to carry forward peace and development agenda on firm footing and meaningfully”, he said.
Speaking to various deputations from all across the State, who called on him in a ‘Awami Mulakat’ here, the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment for inclusive and equitable development of all regions and sub-regions of the State.
“Regardless of any consideration, my endeavour is to reach out all areas and all sections of the society in the process of development and facilitate resolution of all political issues in a peaceful and amicable situation”, he told a delegation of Gujjars and Bakerwals from Khonmoh and assured them of the commitment of his Government for all weaker sections of the society including Gujjars, Bakerwals, Pahari speaking, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and other backward sections.
The Chief Minister said that besides normal development schemes, special programmes for upliftment of weaker sections of the society are in place and various Welfare Boards pertaining to the welfare of these sections, are looking after their progress and development.
Talking to a delegation of artisans from Srinagar, Omar Abdullah referred to various initiatives his Government has initiated for the comprehensive development of handicrafts and artisans associated with this highly economic important activity. He said strengthening of this sector by initiation of cluster development of artisans associated with different handicrafts and registration of all artisans in the State to help them get benefited under different schemes is in progress, adding that these will have greater impact on the development and upliftment of handicrafts and people associated with it.
The Chief Minister said that he would take up the issue of assistance to weavers under centrally sponsored handloom development programmes with the Union Minister so that funds available under various schemes are ensure for the workers in handloom sector.
The Chief Minister while talking to various other deputations from Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Shopian, Srinagar, Budgam, Beerwa, Sangarhama, Amargarh, Tral, Ramban, Rajouri and various other places referred to the historic enactment and implementation of Public Service Guarantee Act making service delivery of different important public services time bound and compulsory for the officials concerned.
Omar Abdullah asked the people to use these important tools of empowerment for making administration prompt and delivery quick, and derive benefits besides helping in bringing transparency and good work culture in Government Departments.
The main demands raised by different deputations included those relating to upgradation of roads, construction of tube wells, posting of teachers, holding of special recruitment rallies in far-off areas for police recruitment, de-notifying areas which have been notified for a long time but not acquired by the Government.
Demands for setting up of Animal Husbandry Centres, creation of community halls, development of playfields, improvement in power supply system, development of drainage schemes, opening of gynecology sections in various hospitals, construction of foot bridges, development of model towns on the pattern of model villages, opening of neurology centre in JVC hospital etc. were also brought to the notice of the Chief Minister by various deputations besides personal issues raised by individuals during their meeting with the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister gave patient hearing to all and issued on the spot directions for early redressal of urgent issues of public importance.
