Omar reviews progress on 4-lanes of Jammu-Srinagar NH

SRINAGAR, July 19 : Reviewing the progress of 4-laning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway project at a high level meeting here this afternoon, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah directed for fast tracking both land acquisition and construction work. He laid stress on fixing time lines for completion of works and payment of compensation for the land being acquired under the project.
Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Minister of State for R&B, Javid Ahmad Dar, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Director General Police, K. Rajindra, Principal Secretaries, B. B. Vyas, K. B. Agarwal, Umang Narula, Divisional Commissioners, Kashmir and Jammu, Dr. Asgar Samoon and Pradeep Gupta, Commissioner Secretaries, Tanveer Jahan, B. A. Runiyal, Chief Engineers R&B, Kashmir and Jammu, Project Director, National Highways Authority of India and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
In a PowerPoint presentation, the Project Director NHAI gave brief about the salient features and status of progress on the project. He said that 114 kilometres of the 400 kilometre road project from Lakhanpur to Srinagar have been completed so far at a cost of Rs. 592 crores. This includes stretch from Lakhanpur to Jammu including 15 kms Jammu Bye-Pass and 17.80 kms Srinagar Bye-Pass.
He said that work on 286 kms road length is underway in six packages. The major structures to be constructed include two tunnels of 8.5 kms and 9.2 kms length, 12 short tunnels of 6.2 kms length, 34 major bridges and 24 viaducts.
Taking brief on the land acquisition and compensation made to people whose land has been taken for the project, the Chief Minister directed for hassle-free compensation disbursement to the people. He also directed for clearing the acquisition cases on fast track as also stressed on speeding up the construction work.
The Chief Minister asked the Revenue Minister to take monthly review of the land acquisition process so that entire land earmarked for the construction of 4-laning project is handed over to the concerned for construction purposes in shortest possible time. He also told him to monitor the process of compensation being paid to the people whose land has been acquired under the project.
