Omar, Soz discuss poll strategy

JAMMU, Feb 23: PCC (I) president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here this morning and discussed with him the strategy to be adopted by National Conference-Congress Alliance for election to five seats of Legislative Council being held on March 7.
“Among other issues, the common strategy for ensuring success of the Alliance candidates was discussed in the meeting”, a PCC (I) handout said, adding that both the leaders felt that position of the coalition candidates was quite comfortable and it would win all five seats.
Both the leaders decided that joint meeting of the legislators of coalition partners would be held on March 6 to finalise strategy for the elections.
Meanwhile, selection of Congress candidates for Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election would be made on the basis of inputs from the organisation, Prof Soz said.
“The selection of right persons would be made on the basis of inputs from the field and the organisation set up, including the District Congress Committee (DCC),” he said, addressing a meeting of the DCC Jammu Urban at PCC headquarter here.
Party workers should gear up their activities to strengthen the organisation and also to prepare for elections to the urban bodies, which are due to be held in the state, Prof Soz said.
The issue of reservation and rotation of wards in the Corporation and Municipal Bodies was also discussed in the DCC meeting.
