SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah cast his vote in a local polling booth but misses his father who voted in Lok Sahba elections. Mr Abdullah, who is seeking mandate from Sonawar constituency in Srinagar, was among the first to cast his vote in a polling station set up in a missionary school. After casting his vote, Mr Abdullah Tweeted “My thoughts are with my parents as they both prepare for surgery today. I wish I could be there with them but that wasn’t to be. He said ” 7 months ago when dad came out after voting for himself he quipped that he’d done a selfie, I guess now I’ve done a selfie as well.
Mr Abdullah is seeking candidate from Sonawar and Beerwah constituency in Badgam district after he shifted from Ganderbal seat, represented by his father Dr Abdullah and grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah since 1977 after Indira-Sheikh accord in 1975. However, Mr Abdullah lost in 2002 to a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but won in 2008. Dr Abdullah lost to PDP candidate Tariq Hamid Karra in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.
