On World Standards Day, BIS JKBO organizes ‘Manak Mahotsava’

JAMMU, Oct 7: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-J&K Branch Office (JKBO) in collaboration with Dr. B.R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar today organized ‘Manak Mahotsava’ on the occasion of World Standards Day-‘Shared Vision for Better World’.
A handout stated that each year on October 14, member countries of IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate this day to pay tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts who developed standards.
Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS gave his opening remarks through video conference and encouraged students and faculty to take the step of R&D revolution initiated by BIS.
Registrar of NIT Jalandhar, Prof. Ajay Bansal was chief guest.
Rajeev, Deputy Director General North, BIS was guest of honour and the programme was attended by more than 400 students and faculty members from NIT Jalandhar along with more than 100 participants from various industries of Jalandhar.
Tilak Raj Director and Head of JKBO initiated the programme in which 12 stalls were established showcasing different projects by students of NIT Jalandhar and prototypes were displayed by leading industries of Jalandhar like Kalsi Metal Works Pvt Ltd, Speedway Tyres, Fine Switchgear and Verka Milk products.
The projects developed by student of NIT Jalandhar varied from field of Textile Engineering to IT system development.
Niraj Kumar Mishra and Hitesh Yadav, Assistant Director BIS along with Dr Neelam Rani, Assistant Professor NIT adjudged the stalls and projects and the students were encouraged with awards.
The programme started with Manak Geet of BIS and performance of the students in form of classical dance and Nukkad Natak. Student of BIS Standard Club of GSS Maqsudan and Noorpur also performed a ‘Jago Grahak Jago’ skit.
The aim of this event was to create awareness among stakeholders including regulators, industry, academia, R&D institutions and consumers on their roles in realizing 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by United Nations to promote prosperity while protecting the planet for achieving the same by 2030.
DDGN, P. Rajeev spoke on importance of standards in day-to-day life and importance of Circular Economy.
An MoU was also signed between BIS and NIT Jalandhar on this occasion to further strengthen cooperation in the field of standardization.
BIS JKBO felicitated the Long-Standing Licensees of the region and awarded BIS Certification Licenses to new licensees.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director BIS reiterated that everyone should adopt sustainable approach in day to day activities.
Resource persons who helped BIS in promoting the concept of BIS Standards Clubs in various schools and colleges in the region were also felicitated.
