Haryana Governor to visit shrine today

SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Reviving the ancient culture and bringing back the glory to this historical shrine in Kashmir which used to be a hub of cultural and spiritual activities up to 1989 -when the minority Hindu community was forced to leave Kashmir, a grand function is being held at Vicharnag religious place Srinagar near Soura on the occasion of first Navratra tomorrow.
The function will be jointly organized by Vishav Kashmiri Samaj and Vicharnag Sthapan Trust (VST) in which the Haryana Governor, Bandaru Dattatreya will be the chief guest while Geeta Manishi Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj, educationist, philosopher and a writer will be the guest of honour and Vice Chancellor, Shri Vishawkarma Koushal University, Haryana Dr Raj Nehru will be special invitee.
As Saptrishi Samvat 5099 ended today and 5100 year begins tomorrow. On this occasion Haryana Governor and other dignitaries will release the new wall and table Saptrishi Calendars for year 5100 in presence of a prominent people and members of Kashmir Pandit community drawn from Valley and Jammu including PM package employees, said Kiran Wattal, convener Vishaw Kashmiri Samaj.
He said the Sapatrishi is the oldest calendar which was being published by Kashmiri Pandits from Vicharnag and the Panchang of Pandits was also being published from this historical and religious place from times immemorial. This place was a hub of religious cum spiritual activities and great saints including Acharya Abhinav Gupt, the great philosopher of Kashmir, Jagat Guru Shankaracharya, Varrah Mehar a great astrologer and Hiuen Tsang a Chinese historian visited this religious place.
Wattal said a festival (mela) used to be held here on the occasion of Amavasya of first Navratra every year called (Navreh Mavas in Kashmiri). He said the team of VKS and VST have reached Vicharnag today to see arrangements for tomorrow’s function. This will be a great occasion in the history of Kashmir when the religio-cultural activities will begin at this ancient shrine tomorrow.
