JAMMU, Aug 24 : A woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her temporary residence at Gandhi Nagar area of city outskirts while a couple also made an abortive attempt on life by consuming some poisonous substances at Marhjali area falling under the limits of police station Gharota.
According to a police spokesperson, 25-year old Pooja Devi wife of Ganesh Kumar, a resident of UP (at present near Apsara Theatre, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu) today consumed some poisonous substance following which she was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where she was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
The body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital for conducting postmortem tomorrow. A case under relevant sections has been registered in this connection at police station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started to ascertain the reasons behind taking such extreme step by the deceased woman.
Meanwhile, a man identified as Sikander Singh (29) son of Karan Singh and his wife Pallavi (22), residents of Marjhali falling under the jurisdiction of police station Gharota, also tried to end their lives by consuming some poisonous substance. In serious condition, the couple was shifted to GMCH for treatment. The reason behind such extreme step taken by the couple could not be known immediately. A case in this connection has been registered at police station Gharota and further investigations started.
