One held with 100 kg poppy straw

RAMBAN, Oct 9: A narcotic smuggling bid was foiled today at Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal with the arrest of one person with 100 kg poppy straw.
“While naka checking, a police party of police post Jawahar Tunnel intercepted one Tata Mobile vehicle bearing Registration Number PB10HH-7657 for checking and during the process of checking, 100 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle,” a police official said.
The official said that the accused driver namely Gurvinder Singh son of Resham Singh, resident of Kotla (tehsil Jagraon, district Ludhiana, Punjab) was arrested on spot and the recovered poppy straw seized. During preliminary questioning, the driver confessed that he was illegally transporting the poppy straw from Kashmir to Punjab.
In this connection, a case FIR number 148/2020 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at police station Banihal and further investigation taken up.
The arrest as well as the recovery was made by Sub Inspector Wasim Mehraj, Incharge police post Jawahar Tunnel on the directions of Inspector Nayeem Ul Haq SHO police station Banihal under the supervision of Ashish Gupta Deputy SP (SDPO) Banihal, Sanjay Parihar, Additional SP Ramban and overall supervision of Haseeb Ur Rehman, SSP Ramban.
