UDHAMPUR, May 1: One person died and ten others were injured when an overloaded Maruti van rammed into a roadside cliff at Battal Morh, here today.
According to the police report, the Maruti Van, bearing registration number JK08H-6208, was coming from Ramkote and going towards Manwal when it met with the accident at Battal Morh, about 12:15 hours.
Locals and Majalta police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Majalta where doctors referred five of them to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of their critical condition.
However, one of the victims, identified as Bishan Dass (60), son of Shiv Ram, resident of Kah Gujru, Nagrota Tehsil Ramkote in District Kathua, succumbed to his injuries before being shifted to GMC Jammu from PHC Majalta.
The injured persons were identified as driver Som Dutt, son of Tara Chand of Ramkote, Bishan Dass son of Shiv Ram (60) of Kah Gujroo Nagrota, Babli Devi (37) wife of Om Parkash of Palnoo Majalta, Vishali Sharma (22) daughter of Darshan Kumar of Deot Majalta, Jyoti Devi (27) wife of Pankaj Sharma of Kah Gujroo Nagrota, Renu Devi (40) wife of Kulwant Singh of Palnoo, Harpali Sharma (16) daughter of Darshan Kumar of Nagrota Gujroo, Nisha Devi (40) wife of Mast Ram of Palnoo, Pushpa Devi (48) wife of Bishan Dass of Kah Gujroo Nagrota, Tripta Devi (42) wife of Darshan Kumar of Deot and Midansh Khajuria, 17- month old son of Pankaj Sharma of Kah Gujroo Nagrota.
Meanwhile, in another road accident, two passengers were injured when a Mahendra vehicle rolled down into a gorge at Nallah Ghorian in Ghordi area of Tehsil Ramnagar.
Police and locals shifted the injured persons to PHC Ghordi where doctors referred them to District Hospital Udhampur. Driven fled away from the accident spot while the injured were identified as Joginder (22), son of Birbal of Ghordi Jagir Tehsil Ramnagar and Varinder Kumar (28) son of Mohan Lal of Nallah Ghorian.
