POONCH, Apr 20: One person was killed while at least 15 others injured when a mini-bus (Canter) skidded off the road and turned turtle near near village Pallian in Mendhar area today.
The mishap took place when the vehicle bearing registration No. JK-12/1051 was on its way to Mendhar from Poonch area. The passengers on board had to attend the marriage function of one Mukhtar at a village in tehsil Mendhar. The driver lost control over the vehicle near Salani bridge and it met with accident at around 10.30 am. While one person was killed on the spot, at least 15 others including driver were injured in the mishap. The police party from Mendhar rushd to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Mohd Irshad, son of Fazal Hussain, resident of Darra Dullian in Poonch. All the injured were removed to Mendhar and Poonch hospitals while three seriously hurt were referred to GMC hospital, Jammu. They were identified as Mohd Aslam (18), son of Mohd Bashir, Mohd Shakeel, son of Mohd Rashid, Maqsood Hussain, son of Mohd Kabir, all residents of Darra Dullain.
Some of the injured were provided first aid at Mendhar hospital and discharged while five were in Poonch hospital and three in Mendhar still under going treatment. They were identified as Mohd Sharief, son of Fata Mohd, Akhtar Bi, wife of Mohd Kabir, Mohd Aslam, son of Mohd Din, Lala Hussain, son of Mohd Din, Mohd Khalil, son of Mohd Abdul, Karam Din, son of Atta Mohd, Motein Begum, wife of Mohd Akbar, Mohd Shabir, son of Kaka, Rashid Mehmood, son of Mohd Bashir, all residents of Darra Dullian. Three injured admitted to Mendhar SDH are – Tanveer Ahmed, Qulsoom Begum and Ishaq Hussain.
The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
