One killed, 17 injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Feb 24: An elderly man was killed while 17 others including three minors were injured today in separate road mishaps in city outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, a pedestrian identified as Manohar Lal (60) son of Deri Saran, a resident of Nadi (Miran Sahib) was hit and seriously injured by a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK02AH-8709 at Gandhi Nagar near Church, this afternoon. The seriously injured man was immediately shifted to Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar. But in view of his serious condition, he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites. In this connection, a case was registered at police station Gandhi Nagar and accused driver identified as Sunil Kumar son of Dayal Chand of Bishnah, arrested.
A Mahindra Load Carrier bearing registration number JK21B-9403 carrying Gujjars and Bakerwals towards Surinsar today rolled down the road near Tuten di Khuei in Sidhra area of city outskirts.
In the mishap, 13 persons were injured, six of them seriously. The injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital from where those with minor injuries were discharged after giving first aid while six seriously injured persons identified as Parvez Ahmed (25), Mohd Iqbal (34) Muzmail Hussain (25), Tayub Hussain (14), Zakir Hussain (18) and Tamina Bibi (3) were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, for treatment.
In upper Belicharana area of city outskirts, an oil tanker bearing registration number JK02AB-1835 hit a bike bearing registration number JK02BL-2325 and injured its rider Bainerjee (50) and his pillion rider, Lalita Pandita alias Dolly, both residents of Krishna Nagar, Miran Sahib. Both the injured were shifted to GMCH Jammu for treatment.
A 25-year-old youth identified as Ajay Kumar and 10-year-old boy namely Bilal Ahmed  son of Riyaz Ahmed of Surinsar were injured when an unknown vehicle hit the bike on which they were travelling, at Bishnah. They were also taken to GMCH for treatment.
In all cases, the concerned police have taken cognizance.
