One killed, 18 injured in road accidents

Tata Sumo which met with accident in Mendhar on Wednesday.

JAMMU, Dec 19: One person was killed while at least eighteen were injured  in three separate road accidents in Mendhar, Rajouri and Samba area of Jammu  region today.
Reports from Mendhar said that nine persons were injured after a Tata Sumo bearing registration No. JK02B/4605 skidded off the roads and fell into a gorge at Sakhi Maidan this afternoon. The vehicle was being driven by one Shahzad Ahmed, (a local Degree College student of BA-Ist), son of Karam Dad, resident of Mankote. The boy though received some injuries yet he managed to escape.
The mishap took place at around 2.30 pm. Most of the passengers were females in the vehicle. Use of mobile phone and over speeding was said to be the reason  behind the accident. Immediately after the mishap, the locals removed all the injured to Sub-district hospital, Mendhar.  Two seriously injured were referred to GMC Hospital Jammu. They were identified as Mohd Sharief (45), son of Hassan Mohd of Mankote and Musrat Bi, wife of Mohd Rafiq of Chhajla. The other injured undergoing treatment in Mendhar hospital are-Nusrat Rani (staff nurse), resident of Mendhar, Kaneez Bi of Mankote, Maqboola Bano of Salwah, Mohd  Sharief of Chhajla, Firdous Younis, Sayeed Khan and Sazia Kouser- all students from Mankote. The police registered a case and started investigation.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and another injured when their bike ( JK02M/1756) was hit by an unknown car at Panjbati near Badani in Samba today. Both the injured were rushed to local hospital where one of them was declared as dead. The police identified one of them as Dhian Chand, son of  Jattu Ram, resident of Katli in Samba. The injured undergoing treatment in Samba hospital is Vijay Kumar, son of Rattan Chand of Samba town. The police was investigating.
Report from Rajouri said that at least eight persons including a child were injured after a  Tempo Traveler skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Faija Morh in Kotranka area today. The mishap took place at around 3.45 pm when the vehicle was on its way to Rajouri from Bakori.  As it reached near Faija Morh, where some road repair work was in progress, the driver lost control due to bad condition of road and the vehicle fell down.
All the eight injured passengers were shifted to Kotranka hospital where three of them were later referred to district hospital, Rajouri. They were identified as Mohd Farooq-29 (Dvr) of Kot Dhara, Shafiq Ahmed (25) of  Peeri and Hamid Arif (28) from Potha. Five injured admitted to Kotranka hospital are- Salima Begum of Peeri,  Mohd Shakeel of Budhal, Zaffar Iqbal of  Jamola, Liaqat Ali of  and minor Mohd Sayeed of  Kamada in Kotranka.
