One killed, 2 injured as live wire falls

RAJOURI, July 4: People held strong protest as one person was killed and two others were seriously injured after a live high tension electric wire fell on them at village Dhanore Loharan in Rajouri today.
Reports said the mishap took place when a 1100 KV power cable fell on another 430 kv line and then fell on the ground. Three persons and a buffalo got trapped in the cables. While one person and the cattle were killed on the spot the two seriously injured persons were rushed to Rajouri hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Munir Hussain (65), son of Faroz Din, resident of Dhanore Loharan. The injured admitted to hospital are-Mohd Kabir, son of Munshi Khan and Sabra Begum, wife of Mohd Iqbal, hailing from the same village.
As the high tension wire fell on the 430 KV line the high voltage to the nearby villages caused extensive damage to the electric appliances/ electric gadgets of the people. Later, a large number of people from the village moved to the Gujjar Mandi Chowk Rajouri and held strong protest against the local PDD authorities. They demanded compensation in favour of deceased family and injured besides other people whose costly gadgets were damaged due to high power. They also kept the dead body on the road during protest.
Later, Additional DC Rajouri Mumtaz Ahmed and DSP Headquarters Hamid Choudhary besides SHO Rajouri reached the spot. Executive Engineer PDD was also later summoned. The people demanded that job to a family member of the deceased be provided besides compensation to the other injured. On the assurance of ADC, the people lifted dharna from the road after two hours. The vehicular movement was then restored on the road.
Meanwhile, Rajouri police have registered a case FIR No. 487/ 2016 under Sections 337, 304-A against the concerned PDD officials.
