One killed, 3 injured in accident

RAMBAN, Feb 1: A devastating road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar highway claimed one life and left three others injured in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred around 12:10 AM at Battery Chashma, when a vehicle carrying a licensed alcohol load lost control and plunged approximately 1,000-1,500 feet down the hillside.
According to sources, the driver was allegedly driving rashly and negligently, leading to the tragic mishap. Upon receiving the report, a rescue team comprising Ramban Police, Civil QRT, and UTDRF, led by SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
After an extensive rescue operation, three injured individuals-Junaid Ahmed (son of Gulam Nabi), Zakir Hussain (son of Akbar Ali), and Arfaqat Ali (son of Kalu), all residents of Satra, tehsil Hiranagar, district Kathua-were pulled out alive. Unfortunately, one person namely Yasir Ali son of Mohd Azhar, a resident of Koota Morh (Hiranagar, Kathua) succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The injured were rushed to District Hospital Ramban for medical treatment and after providing first aid, referred to government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident. A case has been registered at Ramban Police Station (FIR Number 10/2025) under sections 281, 125(a), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said that the body of the deceased man was handed over to his legal heirs after getting conducted postmortem at District Hospital Ramban.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on the treacherous highway to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
