One killed, 4 injured in road accidents; traffic hit for hours

RAMBAN, Oct 15: One person was killed in a road accident while four others were injured in three other mishaps on road which also hit the vehicular traffic on Ramban-Banihal strip of the highway on Tuesday.

Police sources informed that a truck bearing registration number HR56A-6880, loaded with apples fell down into a deep gorge after its driver lost control over the vehicle in Sherbibi area of Banihal leaving the driver dead on the spot.
After hectic efforts, body of the deceased driver was retrieved from the gorge and shifted to mortuary of Sub District Hospital, Banihal.
The deceased was identified as Harvinder Singh, son of Gyan Singh, resident of Chakki Wali Gali, Ali Grami Mandi, Gurudwara road Saharanpur, UP.
Police informed that the consignment of apples was also destroyed in the incident.
A case in FIR number 161 of 2024 under section 281/106 was registered at Police Station Banihal in this regard and investigation started.
Meanwhile, in Nachlana area, two persons sustained injuries during an accident involving three vehicles.
Police said that due to this accident traffic at both sides was halted for some hours when a truck bearing registration number RJ19GF-0298 en-route Jammu hit with another truck bearing registration number JK13C-1574 in the middle of the road at Nachlana area of Ramsu on Highway leaving drivers of both the vehicles injured and both were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
They said that the accident affected vehicular movement on the road and cranes were pressed into service to remove the loaded trucks from the two lane road stretch at Nachlana on Highway.
Police has identified the injured drivers as Ridmal Khan, son of Akhey Khan, resident of Hopardi Phaladi, Jodhpur, Rajasthan and Shabir Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rehman, resident of Wachi, Shopian.
They said a parked Army vehicle also suffered damage at Nachlana but no one was injured there.
A case in FIR number 116 of 2024 under section 279/337 IPC was registered at Police Station Ramsu in this regard.
In yet another accident, a rashly driven truck bearing registration number HR46D-7314 and loaded with apples, while on way to Jammu rolled down from the road and landed on another road (up-tube) due to which the driver of the vehicle got injured and was shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment.
The injured driver was identified as Rafi Mohammad, son of Sadar Din, resident of Pathankot, Punjab.
In still another accident, a truck bearing registration number HP-6498 while on way to Jammu in rash and negligent manner when reached Kela Morh, Ramban rolled down from road leaving the driver injured. Passersby shifted him to DH Ramban for treatment.
Police has identified the injured driver as Harvinder Singh, son of Darshan Singh, resident of Hushyarpur, Punjab.
SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said two separate cases in FIR No. 254 and 255 of 2024 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Ramban in this regard and investigations started.
SSP Traffic Police National Highway Ramban, Rohit Baskotra has said that traffic resumed at around 1 pm after both accidental vehicles were removed from the road at Nachlana.
He appealed to the drivers and vehicle operators to drive with caution while on National Highway.
