One killed, 4 injured in road mishap

KATHUA, Mar 2: One person was killed and four others were seriously injured after a Tata Mahindra hit a school van at Kalibari Chowk on Jammu- Pathankote National Highway near here this morning.
According to police a Tata Mahindra bearing registration number JK08-7957 hit the pick up van of Guru Teg Bahadur School Kathua, bearing number JK08C-0251 at Kalibari here this morning killing a pedestrian and injuring four others including the driver of the van.
The deceased has been identified as 75 year old Bishan Lal of Samba. Bishan Lal died on spot while the injured were first rushed to District Hospital Kathua where from doctors seeing their condition critical referred them to GMC Hospital Jammu for treatment.
The injured were identified as van driver Charanjit Singh, Nidi, Vijay and Ajay.
The Kathua police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law and started investigation. The Mahindra driver fled after the accident spot.
The people of the area expressed their resentment over the increasing accidents in the area on National Highway. They alleged that being a busy crossing the authorities have failed to construct a passenger shed over the Chowk due to which the passengers often stay on Chowk to wait for buses.
