JAMMU, Nov 7: One person was killed while four others got injured in a shootout that broke out between two business partners in Narwal area of city outskirts, today.
The deceased has been identified as Charanjit Singh (42) son of late Moti Singh, resident of Bandhu Rakh, Kunjwani while the injured have been identified as Ranjeet Singh (45) son of Avtar Singh of Kunjwani, his son Puneet Singh (27) and two passersby, Pankaj Kumar son of Anbu Ram of Badyal Brahmana and Harjeet Singh son of Surinder Singh of Model Town, Digiana. All four were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, where their condition was stated to be stable.
According to SDPO Jammu East, Deputy SP, Arun Jamwal, both Ranjeet and Charanjit were partners in oil tanker business and they already had some dispute between themselves.

He said today afternoon, they came to Yard No 2 at Narwal in separate vehicles and had an altercation between themselves. In the meantime, as Charanjit manhandled Ranjeet Singh, the latter brought out a hockey stick from his vehicle. However, Charanjit snatched it from him and started hitting Ranjeet with it, injuring him on the head.
“Apprehending that Charanjit might kill him, Ranjeet took out his licensed revolver and killed the former on the spot”, the officer said. However, one of the shots fired by him also hit his son Puneet. Two passersby, Pankaj Kumar and Harjeet Singh also got minor splinter injuries.
The SDPO said that Ranjit is undergoing treatment at GMCH Jammu under police custody while police has registered a case FIR No 259 under relevant Sections and seized the weapon. He said that both the business partners were involved in scuffles many times in the past also.
