One killed in Nishat mishap, 3 hurt; bus torched

Srinagar, Apr 7: Violence erupted in Nishat area on city outskirts here after a passenger bus carrying Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel for poll duties hit a car and resulted in death of one person and injuries to three others.
A police officer said that a KMD passenger bus hired by State Government for poll period was carrying the CRPF men of 41 Battalion collided with a Maruti car boarded by four persons near Syed Rehmania stop in Brain locality of Nishat, resulting in critical injuries to four persons. While one person died on the spot, others are being treated in a hospital here, the officer said.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Ashraf Hafiz of Danpora, Brain in Nishat. The incident triggered massive protests in the area as locals accused the CRPF of crushing the car and the protesters set ablaze the KMD passenger bus. They also pelted stones on CRPF men. Police arrived on the spot and tried to restore order.
CRPF spokesman, Bhavesh Chowdhary told Excelsior that the CRPF was in no way at fault as the bus was being driven by a civil driver. “The bus was allotted to us by State Government for poll duties. Our men were going for night duty. The bus met an accident and there were some injuries. After the accident, the locals pelted stones on us and also set ablaze the bus,” he said.
