JAMMU, Sept 26: A man from Udhampur died of dengue today taking the number of deaths this year due to the vector-borne disease to two while 42 fresh cases of dengue were reported from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the report, a 38-40 year-old man belonging to Udhampur district succumbed to dengue this morning at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. The deceased man was admitted in District Hospital Udhampur for last 3-4 days and was referred to GMCH Jammu last night.
Meanwhile, a Health official said that 320 people were screened today for dengue in Jammu province out of which 42 turned out to be positive. Of the 42 positive cases, 33 cases were reported from Jammu district while 4 cases came from Kathua, 1 from Rajouri and 4 from other parts of the country. The positive patients include 35 adults and 7 children, he added.
He said maximum 1268 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Samba district with 150 cases and Kathua 146 cases. “There were 68 cases in Udhampur, 31 in Rajouri, 17 in Doda, 16 in Reasi, 14 in Poonch, 4 in Ramban, 2 in Kishtwar, 13 in Kashmir and 13 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 574 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 507 have been discharged and 57 patients are still under treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be empty two times in a week.
