Tragedy has once again struck in Village Keya of Ramnagar Tehsil in Udhampur District. In a tragic and fatal road accident eleven precious lives have been lost so far and scores injured while as some of the injured are critical and battling for life. As per records most of the accidents occur due to the overloading, rash driving and negligent driving. But this accident is the cause of negligent driving and also dilapidated and narrow road. Due to the bad and narrow road the driver of the ill-fated bus could not control the bus while negotiating a curve and in the process lost his life besides ten other passengers.
As I belong to the concerned area, I remember that way back in 1994 a fatal accident of much more intensity had occurred in which as many precious lives were lost at Majouri some 20 kilometers ahead the present site of accident. After that there have been many small and big accidents in this stretch which is the main road connecting Ramnagar with Dudu Basantgarh. Gravity of the situation is that 22 years have lapsed but the condition of this important and main road is the same as was in 1994. Central Government has so far allotted crores of rupees under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.
Under this yojna every far flung area has to be connected to the nearest Tehsil and District headquarters. But the people of this area are not fortunate enough to benefit from this Yojna. Despite repeated appeals, deputations and protests and despite repeated assurances by the concerned MLAs and ministers of different parties nothing has been done so far. Not a single MLA or minister of any party has bothered to repair and widen the roads of the area despite the fact that so many accidents have taken place and precious lives have lost.
Is there anybody at the helm of affairs who cares for human lives and who may realize the situation and tries to do something to avoid these fatal accidents which claim human lives from time to time?
Union MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh is requested to personally take initiative in starting the repairing and widening of various road stretches of this tehsil on a large scale so that no more accidents happen and no more precious life is lost.
