Sir,
Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections have been announced. Elections will be held in two phases in Jharkhand and in one phase in Maharashtra. Earlier, there was a gap of only three days between the elections of Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections were held in three phases, while Haryana assembly elections were held on October 5. This time the Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases. Assembly elections in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh were held at an interval of only 18 days. In such a situation, the question arises that amidst the discussion of ‘one nation one election’, why is the Election Commission conducting the assembly elections of the states in three days, eleven days, fifteen days, two phases and five phases? Couldn’t elections be held simultaneously in four states? The issue of one country one election gained momentum in our country when the Prime Minister raised it prominently before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. After this, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. The question is that when the government is in favour of it and the parties running the government in other states have support, then why are the elections being held at an interval of a few days?
