Only NC, BJP claim resolution passed by Assembly was about Art 370: Lone

Srinagar, Nov 16:: Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, today mocked the Omar-led Government, stating that only the National Conference (NC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claim the resolution passed in the Assembly was about Article 370.
Addressing a press conference in Handwara, Sajad said that symbolic gestures, such as draping shawls over leaders, cannot undo the losses J&K has suffered in the past.
“As of now, only NC and BJP claim the resolution is about Article 370. What sort of language have they used that others cannot understand or recognize as such?” he said.
Sajad accused the NC and Congress of misleading the people of J&K about the resolution on Article 370.
“The resolution was ambiguous, with no clear mention of rejecting the August 5, 2019 decision or reinstating Article 370,” he stated.
He further alleged that NC has historically used its authority to suppress opposition rather than work for the collective welfare of the region.
“If NC wants to reclaim anything, it must include every party in the process,” he added.
Sajad also highlighted the events of 1987, which he claimed triggered turmoil in the Valley. “Nobody wants to discuss the aftermath of 1987, which led to major unrest in Kashmir,” he said.
The PC Chairman accused NC of being complicit with the BJP, questioning their true intentions.
He alleged that NC and Congress framed the resolution to avoid directly addressing the controversial constitutional changes enacted by the Central Government in 2019.
Sajad also criticized the Congress for its inconsistent stance, pointing out that its national leadership recently distanced itself from any commitment to Article 370. “Congress is playing a dual game,” he remarked.
Expressing concern over neglected issues, such as the Indus Water Treaty, Sajad said these matters were ignored during elections but have now become pressing concerns.
Calling for a collaborative approach, he urged all political parties to work together for the betterment of J&K, ensuring a prosperous and peaceful future.
Sajad also announced his decision to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the police verification system in J&K.
