SRINAGAR: Only one-way traffic will be allowed to ply on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, which connects Ladakh region with the rest of the state, in view of bad condition of road at Zojila Axis.
A traffic police official told that the highway, which was closed yesterday due to snowfall at Sonmarg, Zojila and Zero point, was put through for traffic. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway pressed into service sophisticated machines to clear the snow.
Traffic was resumed this morning and vehicles from Leh to Srinagar were allowed to ply. However, no vehicle will be allowed from Srinagar to Leh.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) (Traffic Kashmir-Rural) said the traffic from Drass in Ladakh to Sonamarg in Kashmir shall be allowed on odd days while traffic from Sonamarg to Drass will be allowed on even days.
The odd days include 1, 3, 5, 7, while even days include 2, 4, 6, he said.
The SP further said, for down traffic, the cut off at Drass shall be 1000 hrs and Minimart at 1100 hrs.
For up traffic, cut off at Sonamarg shall be 1000 hrs, he added.
The official further stated that the Light Motor Vehicles will be allowed to move first followed by vehicles of security forces and then heavy civil vehicles would be allowed to go through. (UNI)
