JAMMU, Mar 24: To spread the awareness over ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOE), a programme organized by J&K BJP was held here today.
The programme was organized by former Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria.
Ashok Koul, General Secretray (Organization), J&K BJP, former Mayor Rajinder Sharma, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, J&K BJP Minority Morcha President, District Presidents Nand Kishore Sharma and Naresh Singh Jasrotia addressed the programme.
Ashok Koul, while addressing the programme, stated that the ‘One Nation, One Election’ will coordinate the election cycle for the Lok Sabha (Parliament) and State Legislative Assemblies in the nation.
He stressed that instead of having elections multiple times in a year, this model aims to conduct all elections simultaneously, either in a single phase or in multiple phases within a short period.
“A synchronized election cycle would prevent frequent policy standstills. The simultaneous elections will improve voter participation, as people would need to vote only once in a given period rather than multiple times for different elections,” he added.
Rajinder Sharma said that One Nation One Election will steer the nation on a new development spree.
Baldev Singh Billawaria appealed to all those present in the programme to fully support and take the message to the society.
Referring to the debate over ONOE’s potential impact on India’s democratic framework and federal structure, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa said he was a strong proponent of the concept and the opposition narrative against it was not even remotely connected to truth.
“The core idea behind ONOE is to synchronise elections for both the central and state governments, holding them simultaneously every five years. The intent is to reduce the frequency of elections and thereby save time and resources,” he added.
All Ex-Councillors Jammu Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee Arnia, Municipal Committee Bishnah, Municipal Committee Ghou-Manhasan, Municipal Committee Akhnoor, Municipal Committee Jourian, Municipal Committee Khour, Municipal Committee R S Pura, their presidents and members, unanimously supported and passed the resolution of ‘One Nation, One Election’.
