Onus of building a strong nation lies on youth: Jora

JAMMU, Mar 2: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora, on Sunday visited Lungnag Youth Hostel, and took stock of demands and grievances of the students.
The Minister also attended a function, organised by the Lungnag Youth Association formed for welfare of Ladakhi students from Lungnag (Zanskar).
Speaking on the occasion, Jora highlighted the importance of education in today’s era of knowledge explosion and exhorted upon the students to work hard for a bright future. He also emphasized upon them to play a pro-active role in preservation of their rich traditional and cultural values for posterity.
Urging upon students to take keen interest in studies to achieve excellence, the Minister said that the Government has expanded the opportunities of education across the State which should be utilized optimally by the targeted segment. “Youths are the builders of a strong nation on whom shoulders lies the onus of steering the society towards progress and prosperity”, the Minister maintained.
Jora said that truthfulness, honesty, empathy brotherhood and selflessness are basic values of a civilized society and Ladakh region is a candid instance of this. He stressed upon the students to further promote such high ethos they have inherited which will greatly help them become a true citizen.
Referring to meritorious scholars of the region, the Minister stressed upon the students to take inspiration from those who have made a mark in the society and are studying and working at AIIMS, IITs, IIMs and other prestigious institutions of the country.
The Minister encouraged the students to equally focus on academics and moral education which is pre-requisite for their overall development. He also had words of praise for those parents who despite meagre sources of income provided opportunities to their wards in getting quality education.
Earlier,the Minister inspected the hostel premises and took stock of facilities being made available for the Ladakhi students.
Meanwhile, the senior students of the hostel presented a memorandum to the Minister highlighting various problems confronted to them.
Councillor Lungnag (Zanskar) and Municipal Commissioner Jammu besides a large number of Ladakhi students were present on the occasion.
