Open bank branch, upgrade PHC in Zanskar area: MLA

KARGIL, Nov 27: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from remote Zanskar constituency of Ladakh region, Syed Mohammed Baqir Rizvi has urged upon the Governor Reserve Bank of India to open a bank branch at tehsil headquarters Taisuru and also at the villages away from the tehsil headquarters.
The MLA also urged upon the Health Minister, Bali Bhagat to upgrade Primary Health Centre, Panikhar in Zansakar constituency of district Kargil.
In a letter written to RBI Governor, Urjit Patel, the MLA Zanskar reminded him of the PM’s resolve of financial inclusion covering all the rural and remote areas of the country by providing banking services. He pointed out that Suru Valley of Kargil (Zanskar constituency) having population of 25,000 souls spread over 16 revenue villages has only bank branch at tehsil headquarter Taisuru. He said village Rangdum is at a distance of 60 kms from the tehsil headquarters and if a person from Rangdum has to avail banking facilities, he has to travel 120 kms. He demanded that one bank branch be opened at tehsil headquarters Taisuru and also one each at those villages which are far away from tehsil headquarters.
Rizvi, in a yet another letter flashed to the Health Minister, Bali Bhagat urged upon the Minister to upgrade PHC Panikhar in Zanskar to CHC level and also sanction a critical care ambulance to PHC Panikhar to minimize the chances of death during emergencies. He pointed out that Panikhar PHC was established decades back and there after its upgradation was not done. There is urgent need to provide more health care facilities in this local hospital to minimize the sufferings of the local populace of this remotest area of Ladakh region.
