POONCH, Jan 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (SBA), launched with an aim to make India clean, seems to have failed in Mendhar town of district Poonch as many garbage dumps could be seen all around in the town.
Residents of the town said that ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in Mendhar town has totally failed on ground. Garbage is seen scattered all around and garbage dumps are often seen on the roads and lanes of the town.
Worst is the condition of Hospital Road, where garbage dumps are lying unattended for long. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, which is responsible for the cleanliness in the town is not performing its job properly. There is no supervision by the officers concerned. Moreover, the local Administration is also least bothered about the issue.
With the garbage collection and disposal system collapsing in the town, the people have virtually made Hospital Road a dumping point, exposing people to health hazards. The scattered garbage for days fell into the drains which get choked quite often and during rain, the blockade causes water logging which ultimately run into the shops and houses.
The locals appealed to the local administration to awake from deep slumber and take affective steps for ensuring cleanliness in Mendhar town.
