POONCH, June 23: All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF) has demanded opening of Mughal Road for general public and maintained that UT Administration must clarify the reason behind keeping it closed for the general public.
“J&K Administration should now explain the reasons for not opening of Mughal Road for general public, “ Adv Romaan Shoket Manhas, Executive Committee Member and Incharge District Poonch, All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF) said while demanding immediate opening of Mughal Road for both side traffic.
Addressing a press conference here today, Adv. Romaan said that on one hand all of  kind traffic is allowed for inter- state movement at Lakhanpur and on the other hand inter district movement is restricted via Mughal Road because of which people of Pir Panjal region have to travel around 400 km extra which is injustice and unwarranted.
He further said that number of people from Rajouri and Poonch districts use to travel to Kashmir Province for their livelihood, relations and medical facilities and it is difficult and expensive for them to travel via Banihal tunnel. Mughal Road remain close for almost 8 months in a year and closing the same for the rest 4 months for general public movement is discrimination with the people of Pir Panjal region.
Federation leader further stated that movement from Kashmir Province to Jammu Province is open for all kind of traffic via Srinagar – Udhampur – Jammu highway  but Mughal Road is closed for the movement which needs explanation from the administration and it has also been observed that people travelling with emergency purposes or valid movement passes are also harassed and have to spend alot of time at Mughal Road/ Poshana check post which is unbearable and few days back an incident also occurred, clashes between the central forces and local forces on the same pretext was seen.
AJKYF, Executive Committee Member and Incharge District Poonch urged upon the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and UT Administration for opening of Mughal Road for common masses while monitoring the unreasonable delay caused at Poshana Check Post.
